Where it came from
Released in 2007 by the independent label Asgard Musik, the Vandemonian compilation serves as a localized snapshot of the black metal scene emerging from Tasmania, historically known as Van Diemen's Land. The project was conceived to aggregate the disparate, harsh sounds of the island’s underground heavy music community, providing a platform for bands that often operated within highly insular, extreme music circles during the mid-2000s.
The album's design and curation reflect the raw, DIY aesthetic common to regional extreme metal compilations of that era. By focusing on the geographical isolation of the artists involved, the producers aimed to highlight a specific atmosphere synonymous with the Tasmanian landscape. While it remains a niche artifact within the global black metal underground, it is recognized among collectors as a documentation of a specific period in Australian extreme music history.
