Where it came from
Van Dichtbij was released in 2002 by the Dutch label Dureco as part of a series focusing on the legacy of Conny Vandenbos, one of the most prominent Dutch language vocalists of the 20th century. Compiled shortly after her passing in 2002, the collection served as a retrospective of her career, which spanned several decades and established her as a quintessential figure in the Nederlandstalig musical landscape.
The album reflects the aesthetic sensibilities of Dutch pop music from the 1960s through the 1980s, prioritizing her signature interpretive style and melodic charm. The design utilizes archival photography to evoke a sense of nostalgia, aiming to provide longtime fans with a definitive touchstone of her recording career while introducing her repertoire to a new generation of listeners following her death.
