Walt Disney's Meisterwerk Dornröschen

Walt Disney's Meisterwerk Dornröschen, released by the Karussell label, is part of a storied tradition of German-language audio adaptations of classic animated films. During the late 20th century, Karussell became a prominent distributor for Disney properties in the German-speaking market, producing immersive radio-play style retellings that combined original film dialogue and music with narrated transitions to guide listeners through the story.

The cover art and accompanying booklet illustrations by Petra Schmidt-Decker were crafted to evoke the painterly aesthetic of the 1959 original film. Schmidt-Decker was known for her ability to translate the distinct visual language of Disney animation into a compact format, ensuring that the package resonated with families who wanted to revisit the film’s narrative arc in an auditory medium. These releases were generally well-received as accessible, high-quality media for children, serving as a staple of European home libraries for decades.
