Where it came from
This coin was issued in 2017 by the Royal Australian Mint as part of a commemorative collection celebrating the 30th anniversary of Mem Fox's iconic children's book, Possum Magic. The series, which features illustrations by Julie Vivas, was designed to honor one of Australia's most beloved literary works, highlighting the story of Hush and Grandma Poss as they traverse the country in search of a way to make Hush visible again.
The design integrates the classic fourth portrait of Queen Elizabeth II by Ian Rank-Broadley on the obverse with a playful, colored reverse depiction of the characters from the book. Released as a collector set, these coins were received warmly by families and literary enthusiasts alike, serving as a tangible bridge between the cultural significance of Australian numismatics and the national affection for classic children's literature.
