Where it came from
This 1 Crown coin was issued by the Isle of Man in 2002 to commemorate the FIFA World Cup held in South Korea and Japan. As a self-governing British Crown Dependency, the Isle of Man frequently authorizes the Pobjoy Mint to produce commemorative coinage celebrating global sporting events, bridging the gap between numismatics and international cultural milestones.
The coin features an active design of a footballer kicking a ball toward the right, capturing the dynamic energy of the tournament. The reverse displays the effigy of Queen Elizabeth II, a standard requirement for Manx currency. It was marketed primarily to collectors of sports-themed commemoratives and those interested in the Isle of Man's series of thematic crown coins, which are known for their intricate relief work.
