Where it came from
The 2002 Isle of Man 1 Crown coin was minted to commemorate the FIFA World Cup held in South Korea and Japan. As the Isle of Man frequently issues commemorative coinage under the authority of the British Crown, this piece was designed to align with international sporting celebrations, marking the first time the tournament was hosted in Asia.
The design, featuring the portrait of Queen Elizabeth II, follows the standard numismatic conventions established for Isle of Man legal tender during that period. These issues were primarily aimed at collectors and commemorate specific global events, reflecting the island's long-standing practice of producing thematic coins to mark significant cultural milestones in sports and history.
