1 Dollar - Elizabeth II (4th Portrait - Year of the Goat - Coloured)

The 2015 Year of the Goat one-dollar coin is part of the long-running Australian Lunar Series II, produced by the Perth Mint. Released to celebrate the Chinese Zodiac, this specific coin features a colored reverse design depicting a goat, which is the eighth animal in the twelve-year cycle. These coins were issued as legal tender under the Australian Currency Act of 1965, though they are primarily aimed at the numismatic collector market rather than general circulation.

The obverse features Ian Rank-Broadley’s portrait of Queen Elizabeth II, a design used extensively on Australian coinage throughout the late 20th and early 21st centuries. The reverse design was crafted by the Perth Mint’s internal design team, following the established aesthetic of the Lunar Series II, which balances traditional Chinese artistic motifs with high-quality colorization techniques. Upon its release, the series received significant attention from collectors of precious metals and those interested in cultural commemorative currency.
