15 Dollars - Elizabeth II (Jack of Hearts)

The 15 Dollars Jack of Hearts coin was minted by the Royal Canadian Mint in 2008 as part of their innovative Playing Card series. This series was designed to celebrate traditional games, blending numismatic craftsmanship with the artistic conventions of deck-of-card iconography. The coin was produced using sterling silver, featuring a unique rectangular shape that mirrors the physical proportions of an actual playing card, which distinguished it from the traditional circular coins typical of Canadian currency at the time.

The design features the Jack of Hearts rendered in vibrant, stylized colors that stand out against the metallic surface, reflecting a transition in the Royal Canadian Mint's strategy to produce more collectible, thematic novelty pieces. The series was well-received by collectors who appreciated the departure from standard bullion aesthetics, as it moved the medium toward high-relief artistic expression. By combining historical playing card imagery with legal tender status, the mint effectively tapped into a niche market of enthusiasts interested in both game history and modern minting technology.
