Where it came from
The 1992 15-Dollar coin was minted by the Royal Canadian Mint as part of an official commemorative program for the Games of the XXV Olympiad, held in Barcelona. This specific issue, titled Spirit of the Generations, was intended to celebrate the Olympic spirit and the enduring legacy of international athletic competition as the world entered the 1990s.
The coin features a design by Canadian artist Robert-Ralph Carmichael, who was well known for his iconic loon design on the one-dollar circulation coin. For this series, the reverse captures an abstract representation of generational connection within the sporting community, rendered in the distinctive, clean lines characteristic of Carmichael’s aesthetic. It was received by numismatists as a high-quality sterling silver collector piece, consistent with the standard of craftsmanship expected from the Mint’s Olympic commemorative series.
