Where it came from
Released in 2024 by the Royal Australian Mint, this two-dollar coin marks a significant transition in Australian numismatic history as one of the first circulating denominations to feature the effigy of King Charles III. The design process for the portrait followed strict protocols to ensure the monarch's likeness was captured with dignity and precision, representing a shift in the Commonwealth's official coinage following the passing of Queen Elizabeth II.
The reverse of the coin features a striking depiction of a peregrine falcon, a design element consistent with the ongoing 'Australian Animals' series. The inclusion of the falcon serves as both a tribute to Australia's diverse avian wildlife and a continuation of the thematic standards established by the Royal Australian Mint. Upon its release, the coin was received by collectors as a foundational piece of the new reign, valued primarily for its historical significance and its status as a herald of a new era in Australian currency.
