Where it came from
Released in 2026 by The Royal Mint as part of its ongoing Music Legends series, this silver proof two-pound coin commemorates the enduring influence of the progressive rock band Pink Floyd. The issuance celebrates the cultural impact of the group, focusing on their pioneering contributions to sound and visual performance in British music history.
The reverse design features iconic elements associated with the band's aesthetic, most notably the prism and refraction imagery synonymous with their 1973 album, The Dark Side of the Moon. Meticulously crafted to highlight the contrast between the polished relief and the frosted background, the design was developed to reflect the psychedelic artistry that defined the band's identity while maintaining the formal standards of a legal tender commemorative coin featuring the effigy of King Charles III.
