Where it came from
Issued by the Austrian Mint in 2014, this 20-euro coin is part of the 'Prehistoric Life' series, which explores the geological history of the Earth. These coins were produced to celebrate scientific discovery and the paleontological heritage found within Austrian borders, marking the start of a multi-year numismatic exploration of the Cretaceous period.
The coin was designed by the Mint's engraving team to capture the vivid imagery of a landscape featuring the Pterosaur. Using advanced minting techniques to create varying depths and textures, the designers aimed for a balance between educational detail and artistic representation. Upon release, it was well-received by collectors for its high-quality finish and the popular theme of prehistoric fauna.
