Where it came from
Released in 2016 by the Royal Canadian Mint, this 25-cent coin was part of a limited-edition series commemorating the film Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice. Produced in collaboration with DC Comics, the coin was designed to appeal to both numismatists and fans of the DC Extended Universe, marking a crossover between Canadian currency and contemporary pop culture iconography.
The reverse design features an illustrative depiction of the film's title characters, captured in an action-oriented aesthetic that mirrors the movie's marketing materials. The obverse displays the effigy of Queen Elizabeth II by Susanna Blunt. While it holds legal tender status in Canada, the issue was marketed primarily as a collectible commemorative item rather than for circulation, and it was received by the collecting community as a quintessential example of licensed franchise-themed minting.
