3 Euros (Yellow Stingray)

The 3 Euro Yellow Stingray coin is part of the ongoing 'Colorvision' series produced by the Austrian Mint, which debuted in 2016. These coins are designed to highlight the biodiversity of the world's oceans and are specifically noted for their high-quality, glow-in-the-dark color printing applied to the coin's surface. Released in 2024, the piece reflects the Mint's commitment to numismatic innovation, blending traditional copper-nickel minting techniques with contemporary decorative effects intended to appeal to both casual collectors and enthusiasts of marine biology.

The design of the series is a collaborative effort by the Austrian Mint’s internal artistic team, who focus on creating a sense of movement and depth within the restricted circular field of the coin. The Yellow Stingray was chosen for its distinct visual profile, allowing the designers to experiment with the interplay between the coin's metallic luster and the vibrant luminescence of the printed ray. Upon its release, the series has been well-received in the numismatic community for its accessibility and thematic consistency, serving as a popular entry-level collectible that maintains the high production standards associated with Austrian currency.
