Where it came from
The 3-euro Tyrannosaurus Rex coin is part of the 'Supersaurus' series issued by the Austrian Mint in 2020. These coins were designed to celebrate the history of life on Earth, specifically focusing on the evolution of prehistoric giants. The Austrian Mint, renowned for its technical expertise, utilized color-printing technology to bring the subject to life, aiming to make paleontological history accessible and engaging for collectors of all ages.
The design features an intricately detailed Tyrannosaurus Rex on the reverse, with the creature's likeness rendered in vibrant colors against a textured background that evokes a prehistoric landscape. The obverse displays a collective motif of twelve different prehistoric animals, which serves as a unifying element across the entire series. Upon its release, the coin was well-received for its aesthetic appeal and its status as a glow-in-the-dark commemorative piece, a feature that distinguishes the Mint's recent thematic issues.
