3 Euros (Turtle)

The 3-euro coin series featuring the turtle was issued by the Austrian Mint in 2019 as part of the twelve-part 'Color Trip' collection. This series was designed to showcase the diverse wildlife of the planet, with each coin featuring a colored, glow-in-the-dark motif representing a different animal. These coins are minted with a unique dodecagonal shape, a design choice intended to differentiate them from standard circulation currency and appeal to a broad audience of collectors interested in innovative numismatic aesthetics.

The design of the 2019 turtle coin focuses on the serene and resilient nature of the marine reptile, utilizing vibrant colors that fluoresce under ultraviolet light. The Austrian Mint collaborated with their internal design team to create a visual style that balances scientific accuracy with a playful, illustrative quality. Since their release, these coins have been well-received by the collecting community for their high-quality minting standards and their ability to bring modern artistic techniques to traditional European coinage.
