5 Cents - Elizabeth II (Royal Canadian Mint)

The 1998 Canadian five-cent coin was minted by the Royal Canadian Mint as part of the standard circulating currency of the era. This issue features the effigy of Queen Elizabeth II designed by Dora de Pédery-Hunt, which was used on Canadian coinage starting in 1990. The reverse side retains the iconic beaver design by G.E. Kruger-Gray, an image that has been synonymous with the Canadian nickel since 1937, symbolizing the historical importance of the fur trade to the nation's economy.

This specific year represents a period of transition in Canadian numismatics as the Mint began moving toward different metallic compositions. While 1998 saw the continued production of the traditional nickel-based planchet, the designs reflect a long-standing tradition of Canadian heraldry and royal iconography. It remains a staple for collectors interested in the late twentieth-century evolution of the Commonwealth's circulating coinage.
