Where it came from
Released by the Royal Australian Mint in 2020, this five-dollar coin was commissioned to commemorate the Australian Olympic Team's participation in the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games, which were rescheduled to 2021 due to the global pandemic. The coin serves as a numismatic tribute to the spirit of athleticism and national pride, issued at a time when the sporting world faced unprecedented challenges.
The design features the sixth effigy of Queen Elizabeth II by Jody Clark on the obverse, while the reverse showcases a dynamic representation of various Olympic sports, capturing the energy and movement of elite competition. Crafted with a focus on detail, the design was intended to bridge the gap between traditional currency and the celebratory nature of commemorative collectibles, receiving a positive reception among those tracking the Royal Australian Mint's long-standing tradition of Olympic-themed releases.
