5 Dollars - Elizabeth II (Tradition of Hunting: Bison)

The 2013 Bison five-dollar coin was issued by the Royal Canadian Mint as part of the Tradition of Hunting series, a collection focused on celebrating the historical and cultural significance of various animals in Canadian heritage. Struck in 99.99% pure silver, the series aimed to honor the traditional hunting practices of Indigenous peoples and the historical importance of these species to the survival and development of early communities across the North American plains.

The reverse design features an artistic representation of a bison, rendered with a focus on the animal's physical power and its symbolic connection to the landscape. While the Royal Canadian Mint employs a team of staff engravers and artists for its commemorative series, the design follows the mint's rigorous standards for technical precision and aesthetic continuity. The coin was well-received by collectors of Canadian numismatics for its high-relief detail and its thematic consistency with broader RCM programs highlighting Canadian wildlife.
