½ Sovereign - Elizabeth II (Battle of Britain - Hurricane)

Issued by the Isle of Man in 2020, this half sovereign commemorates the 80th anniversary of the Battle of Britain, a pivotal aerial conflict during the Second World War. The coin was released as part of a tribute to the aircraft and pilots that defended British airspace, specifically highlighting the Hawker Hurricane for its indispensable role in the engagement. Such issues from the Isle of Man are typically produced by private mints under authority of the island's government, following a long tradition of commemorative numismatic releases honoring British military history.

The design features an intricate depiction of the Hurricane in flight, capturing the streamlined aesthetic of the iconic fighter plane. By choosing the half sovereign format, the mint adhered to historical weight standards while offering a collectible piece for those interested in wartime aviation history.
