Action Comics Weekly #618

Action Comics Weekly #618, published in 1988, represents a transitional moment in DC Comics history when the long-running flagship title temporarily abandoned its monthly format in favor of a weekly anthology series. This bold editorial decision sought to revitalize the publication by featuring rotating stories centered on various characters from the Superman family and wider DC universe, moving away from the traditional solo Superman adventures that had defined the title since 1938.

The interior stories for this specific issue featured established talents, including writers like Roger Stern and artists such as Dan Jurgens, who were instrumental in maintaining character continuity during this experimental period. The design reflected the frantic, serialized energy of the late eighties, aiming to capture a broader audience through high-frequency engagement, though the format eventually reverted to a monthly schedule in 1989 as readers began to favor traditional, long-form storytelling.
