Where it came from
Adventure Comics #117 was published in May 1947 during the Golden Age of comic books. At this stage of the series' history, the title was evolving from its roots as an adventure anthology into a prominent vehicle for the Superboy character, who became the central focus of the book's covers and lead features following his successful debut in More Fun Comics.
The issue features cover art and interior work by artists associated with the DC house style of the era, such as Joe Shuster and his studio assistants. These stories were designed to appeal to post-war youth by emphasizing the domestic and school-age struggles of a young Clark Kent, providing a grounded, relatable contrast to the larger-than-life heroics depicted in Superman titles.
