Adventure Comics #340

Adventure Comics #340, published in January 1966, serves as a pivotal installment in the Legion of Super-Heroes mythos. During this mid-1960s period, the title had become the primary home for the Legion, a team of teenaged superheroes from the 30th century. This specific issue is historically significant for featuring the first appearance of the Fatal Five, a group of powerful antagonists who would become the Legion's most recurring and formidable adversaries.

The creative direction for this era of the series was largely driven by writer Jim Shooter, who began scripting for the title as a teenager, and artist Curt Swan, whose iconic DC house style defined the visual identity of the characters. Their collaboration aimed to balance the lighthearted, futuristic adventure typical of the Silver Age with an increasingly complex narrative structure, which helped solidify the book as a fan favorite during a transitionary period for DC Comics.
