Where it came from
Agent X #6 was published in 2002 as part of a short-lived Marvel Comics series centered on Nijo, a mercenary who takes on the mantle of the amnesiac hero previously known as Taskmaster's associate. Created by writer Gail Simone and artist UDON, the series was designed to exist within the irreverent, meta-fictional space popularized by the Deadpool franchise, often blending high-stakes action with self-aware humor.
The character and the series were received as an unconventional expansion of the mutant and mercenary corner of the Marvel Universe. The artistic direction by the UDON studio gave the issue a distinct, polished aesthetic that moved away from traditional house styles, aiming for a contemporary look that resonated with fans of action-oriented, character-driven storytelling during the early 2000s.
