Where it came from
Agent X #9 was published by Marvel Comics in 2003 as part of the series created by Gail Simone and Udon Studios. The character, Alex Hayden, was introduced as a spin-off from the Deadpool franchise, following the conclusion of the Deadpool series written by Simone. The book was designed to maintain the irreverent, meta-fictional tone established in the preceding Deadpool run, blending action with sharp comedic dialogue.
The issue features the creative work of writer Gail Simone and artist Udon, a studio known for their distinct, manga-influenced aesthetic that gained significant traction in the early 2000s. The series was designed to explore a character with a fractured identity who gradually uncovers his origins, and it was received by fans as a cult classic that preserved the spirit of Simone's character work during a period of transition for the Marvel mercenary lineup.
