All-Star Squadron Annual #1

All-Star Squadron Annual #1, published in 1982, emerged during an era when DC Comics sought to revitalize its Golden Age characters. Written by Roy Thomas, who was instrumental in grounding the Justice Society of America within the continuity of World War II, this issue was designed to expand the scope of the All-Star Squadron team. It served as a narrative expansion, providing a platform to explore the vast array of heroes operating during the wartime era, reflecting Thomas's deep knowledge of comic history and his commitment to retroactive continuity.

The interior art was provided by Don Newton, a well-regarded artist known for his atmospheric and classically structured layouts. His work on this annual aimed to bring a sense of grandeur to the ensemble cast, grounding these diverse characters in the heightened reality of the 1940s. The issue was received as a solid addition to the expanding DC mythos, catering to readers who appreciated the deliberate, interconnected historical framing that Thomas established for the publisher’s older properties.
