Where it came from
Published by DC Comics in 1983, All-Star Squadron Annual #2 served as a pivotal installment in Roy Thomas’s expansive effort to codify the history of the Justice Society of America and the All-Star Squadron within the DC Multiverse. The series was designed to retroactively weave disparate Golden Age characters into a coherent narrative framework, setting them against the backdrop of World War II to explore the intersection of mythic heroism and global conflict.
The issue features artwork by Arvell Jones and Jerry Ordway, who were tasked with maintaining a classic, heroic aesthetic that honored the source material while meeting the evolving visual standards of the early eighties. The storytelling focused on character-heavy epics that balanced intricate continuity with accessible adventure, cementing the series' reputation among readers as a respectful and ambitious attempt to anchor the publisher's legacy within a unified timeline.
