All-Star Western #10

All-Star Western number 10, published by DC Comics in 1972, serves as a pivotal entry in the Bronze Age of comic books. It was crafted during a period when DC was revitalizing its supernatural and western titles, most notably introducing the character Jonah Hex into the broader DC Universe. The issue was created by writer John Albano and illustrator Tony DeZuniga, who sought to blend traditional western tropes with a grittier, more cynical edge that departed from the sanitized portrayals common in earlier decades.

The reception of this issue was defined by its departure from the heroic western archetype, centering on the scarred, anti-heroic Jonah Hex. DeZuniga's atmospheric artwork helped establish the dark, dusty aesthetic that would define the character for years to come. Critics and fans alike noted that the series stood out for its stark realism and moral ambiguity, ultimately cementing its place as a significant title in DC's attempt to bridge the gap between classic genre fiction and the evolving sensibilities of 1970s readers.
