Altered States: Warlords #1

Altered States: Warlords #1 was released in 1994 by Malibu Comics as part of their Ultraverse imprint. The series was designed to explore the consequences of the reality-bending events occurring across the broader Ultraverse line, focusing on the tactical and political struggles of characters thrust into chaotic, transformed environments. It served as a vehicle for the company to showcase its roster of superhuman characters in gritty, high-stakes scenarios.

The title was part of a wave of experimental crossovers and limited series intended to broaden the appeal of the Ultraverse beyond traditional superhero archetypes. The artwork and narrative tone were crafted to reflect the darker, more visceral aesthetic prevalent in the mid-1990s comic book industry. While the series captured a specific moment in Malibu's ambitious attempt to compete with major publishers, it remains a niche artifact of the era's focus on interconnected event-driven storytelling.
