Where it came from
Alpha Flight #129, published by Marvel Comics in early 1994, emerged during the final stages of the original series' run. As part of the title's twilight period, the issue reflects the creative efforts to wrap up long-standing subplots involving Canada's premier superhero team before the series' initial conclusion with issue #130. By this stage, the book had moved far from its original John Byrne-led inception, reflecting the grittier, experimental tone prevalent in mid-90s comic book storytelling.
The issue features cover art by Tom Morgan and internal illustration by Manny Clark. The design and narrative direction were symptomatic of the era's emphasis on high-stakes character turnover and complex, often convoluted team dynamics. While the series struggled to maintain the critical acclaim it enjoyed during its inaugural years, issue #129 remains a significant milestone for completist collectors marking the end of an era for the fan-favorite Canadian team.
