Alpha Flight #30

Alpha Flight #30 was published by Marvel Comics in January 1986 during the mid-run of the series created by John Byrne. The issue is notable for being written and illustrated by Bill Mantlo and Sal Buscema, respectively, continuing the development of Canada's premier superhero team after Byrne's departure. This era of the series focused on navigating the complex, often supernatural dynamics of the team members as they dealt with both internal strife and external threats within the Marvel Universe.

The issue serves as a bridge in the character arc of Walter Langkowski, known as Sasquatch, and explores the darker, more introspective themes often present in Mantlo’s writing. The design and narrative intent were aimed at balancing the gritty, team-based action typical of the 1980s with the specific character-driven pathos that had come to define the Alpha Flight title. It is regarded by collectors as a transitional piece of mid-eighties comic history, capturing a time when Marvel was expanding its roster of international superhero teams.
