Where it came from
American Vampire #2, released in 2010 by DC Comics under their Vertigo imprint, continued the inaugural story arc written by Scott Snyder. This series was conceived to revitalize the vampire mythos by rooting it in distinct periods of American history, beginning with the 1920s. Snyder crafted the narrative as an exploration of the dark side of the American dream, introducing the character Skinner Sweet as a uniquely American breed of predator.
The issue features striking interior artwork by Rafael Albuquerque, whose gritty, expressive style was instrumental in establishing the series' signature noir aesthetic. Albuquerque’s visual approach was designed to contrast the glitz of the jazz age with the visceral, blood-soaked reality of the narrative. The series was highly acclaimed upon its debut, praised for its innovative genre-bending approach and for introducing a fresh, sharp perspective to the vampire horror genre.
