This issue is a notable entry in the long-running series written by Nick Cardy, who also provided the iconic cover art. The story arc during this period, helmed by writer Jack Miller, leaned into the fantastical elements of the undersea kingdom of Atlantis, reflecting the era's shift toward high-concept adventure and more complex character dynamics for DC's maritime hero.

The design of this issue captures the distinctive aesthetic of Nick Cardy, whose illustrative style was instrumental in defining Aquaman's visual identity during the 1960s. Cardy was celebrated for his dynamic compositions and fluid, expressive line work, which brought a unique sense of movement to the underwater sequences. The issue was received as a standard piece of the period's output, contributing to the establishment of Aquaman's mythos and maintaining the popularity of the series among readers of the time.
