Where it came from
Beast of Boriken #1 emerged from the independent comic book scene, serving as the inaugural issue for a series deeply rooted in Puerto Rican folklore and cultural identity. Created by writer and artist Edgardo Miranda-Rodriguez, the title was designed to weave traditional Caribbean mythos into the contemporary medium of graphic storytelling, aiming to provide representation that honors the history and spirit of Borikén through a modern lens.
The aesthetic of the series reflects a commitment to cultural authenticity, with Miranda-Rodriguez frequently collaborating with various artists to ground the visual narrative in both historical accuracy and fantasy. Upon its release, the project garnered attention for its unique fusion of social commentary and mythology, finding a dedicated audience among readers looking for stories that bridge the gap between ancestral heritage and the evolving landscape of independent comics.
