Where it came from
Beast of Boriken #2 is part of a Puerto Rican comic book series that draws heavily upon local folklore and the island's unique cultural identity. The series was developed to infuse the medium of graphic storytelling with themes of Caribbean mythology, providing a platform for local creators to explore narratives that diverge from the mainstream North American comic tropes.
The design of the series centers on the titular creature, a character meant to embody the spirit and landscape of Puerto Rico. Illustrated with a focus on vibrant, distinct aesthetics, the second issue continues to build the series' world-building efforts. It was produced by independent creators who sought to foster a sense of national pride and interest in regional storytelling, receiving recognition within the island's burgeoning indie comics community for its commitment to indigenous-inspired themes.
