Beauty and the Beast #2

Beauty and the Beast #2, published in 1985 by Marvel Comics under the Epic Comics imprint, serves as the second installment of a four-issue limited series. Created as a vehicle to spotlight the characters Dazzler and Beast, the series was written by Ann Nocenti with artwork by Don Perlin. It emerged during a period when Marvel sought to explore more mature or experimental narratives through its Epic line, moving away from standard superhero tropes to focus on the interpersonal and thematic dynamics between its two leads.

The aesthetic of the series is rooted in mid-1980s comic book sensibilities, featuring character-driven layouts that prioritize the evolving relationship between the mutant pop star and the brilliant scientist. Don Perlin’s pencils, complemented by the series' overall tone, aimed to capture both the high-stakes action expected of Marvel titles and the more nuanced, emotional beats central to the story. Upon release, the series was noted for its unique pairing of characters, though it has since become a distinct cult curiosity within the broader Marvel canon.
