Where it came from
Beauty and the Beast #1 was published by Marvel Comics in 1984 as the inaugural issue of a four-part limited series. Developed within the Marvel Universe, the story paired the X-Men member Dazzler with the Beast, marking a unique collaboration between the two mutant characters. The series was created to capitalize on the popularity of both figures, providing a more character-driven narrative that explored their personal dynamics outside of the typical team-based X-Men structure.
The series was written by Ann Nocenti and featured artwork by Don Perlin. Nocenti focused on the burgeoning bond between the protagonists, blending superhero action with themes of identity and perception. While the series remains a niche entry in 1980s Marvel history, it is noted for its distinctive period aesthetic and its role in expanding the backstories of two prominent X-Men characters during a transformative era for the publisher.
