Beautiful Stories for Ugly Children #24

Beautiful Stories for Ugly Children was a satirical, dark-humored anthology series published by Piranha Press, an imprint of DC Comics, starting in 1989. This title served as a counter-culture response to the increasingly corporate nature of mainstream comics, offering a mix of cynical social commentary and offbeat graphic storytelling that pushed the boundaries of the medium during the late eighties and early nineties.

Issue #24 reflects the series' signature aesthetic, which often blended raw, expressionistic illustration styles with narrative themes that bordered on the macabre. The creative team aimed to challenge the expectations of the typical comic reader, prioritizing a gritty, experimental visual language over traditional hero-centric storytelling. While the series maintained a dedicated cult following, it remains a notable example of the brief period when major publishers aggressively experimented with unconventional, niche-market imprints.
