Where it came from
The City Hunter XYZ Edition was released to commemorate the long-running legacy of Tsukasa Hojo’s seminal 1980s manga series, which follows the adventures of the sharpshooting private investigator Ryo Saeba in Tokyo. This specific edition was designed as a premium, oversized collection intended to provide a definitive archival experience for fans, featuring high-quality paper stock and new cover illustrations that emphasize the series' blend of gritty urban noir and slapstick comedy.
Tsukasa Hojo’s original work is celebrated for its precise linework and influential character designs that defined the aesthetics of the late-Showa era manga scene. The XYZ edition aims to honor this history by re-presenting the narrative with a modern editorial polish. Upon its release, it was well-received by collectors who sought a more durable and visually striking format for one of the most recognizable titles in the history of Weekly Shonen Jump.
