Colección TMEO #1

Colección TMEO #1 marks the inaugural entry in a long-running series of trade paperbacks published by the legendary Spanish satirical magazine TMEO. Based in Vitoria-Gasteiz, the magazine emerged in the late 1980s as a cornerstone of the 'underground' comix scene, providing a raw and irreverent platform for creators who operated well outside the mainstream publishing industry. This first volume was compiled to archive the magazine's most biting and characteristic strips, capturing a unique period of Spanish counter-culture where humor served as a blunt instrument against political and social conformity.

The design and content of the collection reflect the DIY aesthetic of the publication, featuring a rotating cast of contributors known for their grotesque, absurdist, and deeply transgressive styles. These artists, including figures like Mauro Entrialgo and Ata, sought to dismantle social taboos through crude visuals and unflinching satire. Upon release, the volume was received primarily by a dedicated, niche audience who valued the magazine's commitment to total creative freedom and its refusal to bow to editorial censorship, cementing its status as an essential artifact of European alternative comics.
