Cthulhu vs. Uncle Sam #1

Cthulhu vs. Uncle Sam #1 was released in 2009 by Alias Comics as a satirical take on the geopolitical climate of the mid-2000s. The series was written by Stu Perrins and illustrated by various artists, serving as an absurdist clash between H.P. Lovecraft’s cosmic horror entity and the personification of the American government. It emerged during a period of rising interest in genre-bending graphic novels that sought to blend classic literary mythology with contemporary political commentary.

The narrative focuses on the arrival of Cthulhu as a literal force of chaos that the United States military attempts to co-opt or defeat, using the mascot of Uncle Sam as a cynical representative of national policy. The design and artistic approach rely heavily on tropes found in pulp horror magazines and government propaganda posters, aiming for a juxtaposition that emphasizes the helplessness of bureaucratic power against existential dread. While it gained a modest cult following among fans of Lovecraftian parodies, it remained a niche publication within the independent comic market.
