Cthulhu vs. Uncle Sam #2

Cthulhu vs. Uncle Sam is a satirical comic book miniseries published by Alias Comics beginning in 2008. The title emerged during a period of significant political tension in the United States, utilizing the contrast between the cosmic, indifferent horror of H.P. Lovecraft’s mythos and the personified jingoism of American patriotic iconography. The series was designed to function as a dark comedy, positioning the tentacled deity as a candidate running for political office against the established government figurehead.

The series was illustrated by artist Allen Gladfelter, whose stylistic approach leaned into the exaggerated aesthetics common to independent satire comics of the late 2000s. By juxtaposing the otherworldly menace of the Cthulhu mythos with mundane political campaigning tropes, the creative team aimed to critique the absurdity of electoral cycles. The series received attention from niche horror and indie comic circles, though it remains a relatively obscure relic of the small-press explosion that characterized the comics industry during that era.
