Where it came from
Dark Horse Presents #111 was published in August 1996 as part of the long-running anthology series that served as the flagship for Dark Horse Comics. During this mid-nineties period, the title was instrumental in providing a platform for independent creators to experiment with mature themes and genre-defying narratives, effectively bridging the gap between mainstream superhero comics and the burgeoning alternative scene.
The issue is particularly noted for its interior contributions, which reflect the label's commitment to diverse storytelling styles. While the anthology format often featured a rotating cast of established and emerging talent, the creative direction for this era focused on visual experimentation and stylistic variety, helping to solidify the reputation of Dark Horse as a publisher that prioritized creator-driven projects over standardized house styles.
