DC Comics Presents Annual #1

Published in 1982, DC Comics Presents Annual #1 was designed to expand upon the successful format of the DC Comics Presents series, which centered on team-ups between Superman and various guest stars. As part of a growing trend in the early 1980s to capitalize on the prestige of the annual format, this issue provided an oversized showcase for a feature-length narrative that allowed for more complex storytelling and extended creative collaborations than standard monthly titles.

The issue featured a standout story pairing Superman with Swamp Thing, with art by the legendary Dan Jurgens and a script by Len Wein. The editorial intent was to bridge the gap between the grounded, mythic scale of Superman and the atmospheric, gothic horror elements of the DC supernatural line. It was received as a notable highlight of the series, particularly praised for Jurgens’ clean, dynamic character work and Wein's ability to maintain the distinct voices of both protagonists within a singular, high-stakes conflict.
