DC Finest: Batman: Blind Justice #1

DC Finest: Batman: Blind Justice represents a collected edition of the four-part story arc originally published in Detective Comics #598–600 in 1989. Written by Sam Hamm, who had recently penned the screenplay for Tim Burton’s Batman film, the story was conceived to explore the detective aspects of the Caped Crusader while introducing Henri Ducard, a mentor figure who provided a darker, more pragmatic counterpoint to Bruce Wayne's moral code. The narrative is noted for its gritty, grounded tone that mirrored the shifting landscape of Batman comics in the late 1980s.

The visual identity of the arc is defined by the illustrative work of Denys Cowan, whose dynamic and shadow-heavy style brought a noir sensibility to the pages. The series received positive attention for its sophisticated exploration of Batman’s identity and its departure from the more fantastic elements of the era. By placing Bruce Wayne in an international intrigue plot, Hamm and Cowan sought to emphasize the character’s intellectual prowess and strategic mind, solidifying the story as a respected contribution to the post-Crisis on Infinite Earths canon.
