DC Comics Presents Annual #3

DC Comics Presents Annual #3 was published in 1984 as part of a series that historically paired Superman with various characters across the DC Universe. This specific issue served as an oversized showcase, typical of the Annual format, designed to provide a standalone narrative that moved beyond the constraints of the standard monthly title. The primary story features a team-up between Superman and the Swamp Thing, a creative choice that leaned into the darker, atmospheric sensibilities that were becoming prominent in DC's storytelling at the time.

The issue was written by Alan Moore and illustrated by Rick Veitch. Moore utilized this platform to explore the psychological tension between the quintessential hero of Metropolis and the gothic, elemental nature of the Swamp Thing. The artistic direction by Veitch emphasized a stark visual contrast between the two leads, which was highly regarded by readers for its moody execution. The story remains a notable entry in the catalog of Swamp Thing appearances, effectively bridging the gap between mainstream superhero fare and the more conceptual horror-inflected writing that would soon define the character's legacy.
