Where it came from
Die tollsten Geschichten von Donald Duck – Sonderheft, often referred to as the DDSH series, began publication in Germany in 1965 as a way to provide readers with a curated selection of Disney comics that focused heavily on the work of Carl Barks. The series was designed to showcase longer, more adventure-oriented stories that did not fit into the standard weekly Micky Maus format, successfully establishing a dedicated following among European enthusiasts of the duck universe.
The 147th issue of this long-running series continues the editorial tradition of pairing classic American Disney storytelling with the distinctive translation style that defined the German-language reception of the Donald Duck mythos. These issues were largely curated to highlight the sophisticated narrative structures developed by Barks, aiming to appeal to a demographic that valued both the humor and the intricate, globe-trotting plots characteristic of his mid-century peak.
