Where it came from
Die tollsten Geschichten von Donald Duck – Sonderheft is a long-running German comic book series published by Ehapa, originating in the mid-1960s to capitalize on the immense popularity of Disney's Duck universe in German-speaking territories. These digests served as a primary vehicle for printing long-form stories by Carl Barks and later Don Rosa, providing a dedicated format for high-quality Duck adventures that often exceeded the page counts found in the standard Micky Maus weekly magazine.
Issue #220 is part of the established legacy of this series, which is characterized by its distinct pocket-book size and focus on curated narratives. The cover art and interior design reflect the house style of Egmont’s production studios in Denmark, where artists maintained the classic Barksian aesthetic. The series has been a staple of German pop culture for decades, valued by collectors for its consistent editorial curation and its role in fostering an enduring interest in classic Disney comics throughout Europe.
