Die Wege von Malefosse - Gesamtausgabe #5

Die Wege von Malefosse, known in its original French as Les Chemins de Malefosse, is a historical adventure series created by writer Daniel Bardet and artist François Dermaut. Debuting in the early 1980s, the narrative is set during the tumultuous period of the French Wars of Religion in the 16th century, following the protagonists Pritz and Erasmus as they navigate a landscape defined by political instability, violence, and shifting allegiances. The series is celebrated for its meticulously researched historical setting and its unflinching, gritty portrayal of medieval life, which departed from the more idealistic adventure comics of the era.

The Gesamtausgabe, or collected edition, serves to compile these dense, atmospheric chapters into a singular reading experience. François Dermaut’s illustration style is central to the series' identity, characterized by rich, earthy color palettes and an intricate attention to period-accurate architecture and costume. Throughout its run, the series received critical acclaim for its narrative depth and the psychological complexity of its leads. By the time the later volumes in the collected editions were released, the work had cemented its reputation as a cornerstone of European historical comics, praised for maintaining a consistent tone that balances historical gravity with compelling character-driven storytelling.
