Disney Villains: Gaston #4

Disney Villains: Gaston #4 was published by Dynamite Entertainment as part of their broader initiative to explore the backstories of iconic antagonists from the Disney canon. Released in 2023, the miniseries was crafted to provide a nuanced perspective on the character originally introduced in the 1991 film Beauty and the Beast, aiming to bridge the gap between his role as a self-absorbed local hero and the deeper motivations that fueled his descent into villainy.

The issue features the creative work of writer Chuck Brown and artist Luca Casalanguida, who focused on grounded, atmospheric storytelling that departs from the stylized animation of the original film. The series was designed to appeal to adult fans of Disney’s lore, offering a more cynical, mature interpretation of Gaston's vanity and his influence over the village of Villeneuve. Critical reception focused on the series' ability to maintain the character's recognizable arrogance while expanding the world of the original fairy tale.
